From what I saw mentioned online I thought it was images he took and therefore owned the copyright himself.
From what I understand of the "Revenge Porn" laws here they are aimed at sharing images that were sent to you by another person during a relationship. The other person who took a selfie for example owns the copyright and can then require the removal etc under that law as they shared it maliciously.
I'm not sure if the US and Australia have different laws but I remember it being in the news a lot here about 10 years ago.
