The "what's new" tab has become unusable lately because nearly half the replies are from spam accounts. New accounts are getting created, posting 20 links to the same spam on every popular thread and then repeating again once that account gets banned.

Is is possible to limit new accounts from making multiple posts immediately after joining? Like 1 post per hour if an account has a zero or negative reaction score?

Maybe something like a different forum had?

'The Pit':

The only place new accounts can post (content thats not found easily on the web or from other forums, maybe from lesser known creators), and only staff can give a reaction to each post, once the account has a positive number of reactions, they can post content in other threads on the site, like the rest of us, as long as they maintain that positive score. Perhaps they can be thrown back into the pit if their score goes back down to Zero or into negative numbers.

Not too sure what people's opinions are on this suggestion but I think it would help reduce the amount of spam accounts cluttering up threads with links

Yeah, I came back to to 13 notifications this morning. 10 of them were spammers replying to my followed threads. Between the spam and the security errors that are still coming up the forum has been almost unusable.
The frustrating part is that all the links go to the same 2 or 3 places, so it seems like it's a single person that's doing it.

And some of them seem to even be going to posts from the other spam accounts and 'liking' them, all my notifs for these posts are literally within less than a couple of minutes, so it's obviously an automated process doing it, I wonder if they are all coming from the same IP adress or if the person who created the bots used a VPN, if they didn't, then an IP ban would be useful to stop it for a while atleast

This site was somewhere I checked 3 or 4 times a day, sometimes more, prior to the software update. Now between the cache issues and now the last two days, the spam accounts, I think I will limit checking maybe once a day or two. Not worth the headaches.

I do think that there should be some form of limitations on new users. Maybe max of 2 posts per 24 hrs or no posts allowed outside one newbie area, for like two weeks.

Yeah, same. I was sharing content and checking the site often throughout the day. Between raising the VIP threshold and the spambots it's hard to feel motivated anymore. Used to be you made a few posts and you got a few likes. Now I spend some money for subscription or premium post, or I take the effort to edit and cap and upload my old webcam rips, and then come back to no likes and a dozen spam notifications.
